Labor's First Strike Against the War Gains Momentum

Vermont Union offers strong endorsement of West Coast longshoremen's action.

The Executive Board of the Vermont AFL-CIO, representing thousands of workers in countless sectors across Vermont, have unanimously passed an historic resolution expressing their "unequivocal" support for the first US labor strike against the war in Iraq.

Montpelier, VT -The Executive Board of the Vermont AFL-CIO, representing thousands of workers in countless sectors across Vermont, have unanimously passed an historic resolution expressing their "unequivocal" support for the first US labor strike against the war in Iraq. The strike, being organized by the Longshore Caucus of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU), will seek to shutdown all west coast ports for a period of 8 hours on the day of May 1st 2008. The Vermont AFL-CIO is the first state labor federation to publicly back the Longshoremen; other state federations are expected to follow.

The resolution, among other things, calls the war in Iraq "immoral, unwanted, and unnecessary", states that the vast majority of working Vermonters oppose the war, and contends that the war will only be brought to an end by "the direct actions of working people." Many other Vermont labor unions and organizations, including the Vermont Workers' Center, have also made official statements condemning the war.

The resolution also calls on working Vermonters to "discuss the actions of the Longshoremen, to wear anti-war buttons, and to take various actions of their own design and choosing in their workplace on May 1st, 2008."

"Workers in Vermont and all across this nation are against this war. We have already demanded that the government end it, but they have consistently failed to heed our words. Therefore working people are beginning to take concrete steps to make our resistance known. If the war does not immediately end we, the unions and working people of Vermont, will also be compelled to take appropriate action," said David Van Deusen, a District Vice President of the Vermont AFL-CIO.

Traven Leyshon, President of the Washington, Lamoille & Orange County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, said, "Vermont labor has long called for an end to this war. The untold billions being spent on the war could instead be used to address our domestic needs. It is working people who pay the cost of the war - in some cases with our lives, but always with our sacrifices."

Whereas the war in Iraq is immoral, unwanted, and unnecessary,

Whereas this unjust war is opposed by the great majority of Americans & Vermonters, the bulk of organized labor, and by thousands of enlisted military personal,

Whereas this unjust war has already resulted in over 4000 American dead (including a disproportionate number of brave Vermonters), and tens of thousands of service men & woman being wounded,

Whereas this unjust war has further resulted in untold number of Iraqi deaths,

Whereas the Federal Government has not made any constructive moves towards the ending of this war and the full removal of US troops, and instead has taken the course of escalation and indefinite occupation,

Whereas the government of Vermont, and especially Governor Jim Douglas, have failed to find ways to bring Vermont National Guard troops home from Iraq,

Whereas this war will only be brought to an end by the direct actions of working people,

Therefore, Let It Be Resolved that the Vermont AFL-CIO continues to stand in firm opposition to this war, and unequivocally supports the decision of the Longshore Caucus of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) to shutdown the west coast ports for a period of 8 hours on May 1st, 2008, as a means of resistance.

Let It Be Resolved that the Vermont AFL-CIO stands in full solidarity with the New York Metro National Association of Letter Carriers who have resolved to conduct two minute periods of silence on May 1st, 2008, at 1PM, 5PM & 9PM in protest of the war and in support of the Longshoremen.

Let It Be Resolved that the Vermont AFL-CIO encourages all Vermont workers to stand in solidarity with the historic actions being taken by the Longshoremen & other labor unions to end this war.

Let It Be Further Resolved that the Vermont AFL-CIO calls for all Vermont workers to discuss the actions of the Longshoremen, to wear anti-war buttons, and to take various actions of their own design and choosing in their workplace on May 1st, 2008 as a means of resistance against this unjust war.

Freelance Journalist inside the Federal Witness Protection Program as a Non-Criminal Federal Witness. “Black File 7001” is a work of investigative journalism that initially began in 1994. Early in 1999, I completed a covert assignment with the FBI lasting five years after having been previously requested to stand-down from a fulltime university curriculum with an inactive law enforcement background for possibly twelve months. Immediately thereafter I entered the Federal Witness Protection Program (WitSec) and ever since have continued to experience the U.S. government’s use of psychological torture practices and political retribution by the named agents and agencies of the U.S. government under the Bush-Cheney administration. Multiple actionable offenses have been committed under state, federal and international law while the culpable agents and agencies remain shielded from civil and criminal prosecution by the administration’s threat or issuance of national security letters, which prevent legal discovery and subvert the rule of law. The U.S. government does torture, I am one of its American victims and am requesting a humanitarian intervention before it is too late.

EDITORIAL FOREWORD:

Producing the report titled “Black File 7001” has experienced the threat or issuance of national security letters by the Bush-Cheney administration, a subordinate agent directly under the administration threatening me with the invention of a criminal charge if I publish and the suppression of this story by the same Democratic Congress that falsely promised an end to the money laundering operation in Iraq that remains perpetuated by the insidious genocide of our American military service members and other innocent human beings throughout the world.

As a former lifelong humanitarian member of what use to be the Republican Party until 2000 and a person who also voted for Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, I charge the neoconservatives with having filled the bowels of this Trojan Horse Republican Party with the stench of operating a continuing criminal enterprise under the guise of bringing democracy to the world.

The U.S. government infrastructure has been overthrown and this administration has declared constitutional civil war against the United States of America. The American people must organize in a lawful and peaceful revolution that mirrors and surpasses the civil rights era. We must march on Washington, D.C. and picket the corporate offices of the propaganda ministries to force their coverage of your protests and displayed messages.

It is critically important that before the next election we must demand Democratic Congressional members to openly support publically funded elections; not for profit universal healthcare; free or affordable higher education for all citizens; the meaningful development alternative fuel sources; the abatement of the conditions causing the honey bee populations from disappearing from around the world (later in the primary story I will invite you to read why noticing the smallest of G-d’s creatures holds the largest messages); and the criminal investigation of the named agents and agencies of the U.S. government under the Bush-Cheney administration regarding the Black File 7001 report.

Career politicians, regardless of political affiliations who fail the muster of the American people should be removed and replaced with genuine representatives before the next voting cycle.

Americans must become the partisans of liberty to reclaim the dream and promise of America and our inalienable rights as human beings. The jackbooted fascists of today must be prevented from emulating the treason of U.S. Senator Prescott Bush through their perversion of peace for the profits of war. The American mainstream has already been herded towards the invisible and tangible death camps of democracy. In those places you will endured conditions far worse than any physical torture where other Americans like me have been left for dead for over thirty years. These human beings of whom I speak are not criminals or terrorists; they are honorable American citizens who answered their country’s call to duty for special covert government service only to become a disposable population and the hidden dirty secret of the U.S. government.

Since 1970, one thousand and eighty (1,080) American citizens have existed as something cousin to death camp victims from the destructive effects of the Federal Witness Protection Program. These non-criminal federal witnesses and American veterans of voluntary covert government service became the unknowing test subjects in a clandestine torture experiment that exists as the precursor model for converting a freethinking U.S. civilian population into a self-consuming enslaved society. Within the death camp known as “WitSec” these human beings are subjected to the insidious methods of psychological torture that systematically erode the individual sense of self-identity until the will to live has been lost.

ABOUT ME:

My WitSec No. is 7001, I am a husband, father, writer, and freelance journalist who remained inside the Federal Witness Protection Program as a Non-Criminal Federal Witness and am now ready to surface under guarded conditions with the firsthand story of how a minority group of honorable American citizens are being psychologically tortured and politically persecuted by the U.S. government. Immediately I am seeking the support of the American public and progressive news media; the representation of a listed creative agent; contract negotiations with book publishers and the motion picture industry; a university initiative with an accredited school of journalism to include lecturing options and the sanitized conversion of my college records; and communication platforms with Ms. Oprah Winfrey and Mr. George Clooney via the Smoke House Studio.

By comparison to the physical injuries that I have endured from trauma and other accidents, the lasting effects of psychological torture are far worse. This form of torture is sourced from the fascist mindset of the named agents and agencies of the U.S. government under the Bush-Cheney administration through their commissions of actionable offenses and political retributions. As a veteran of voluntary covert government service who operated undercover for five years while contracted by the FBI as an agent of the federal government, I state unequivocally and categorically that the U.S. government does torture human beings. As an American citizen and non-criminal federal witness let the record show that I am declaring myself as a torture victim of the U.S. government. With my soul dying and the body giving signs that it wants to follow I offer that no truer words have ever been written than “give me liberty or give me death” or that “the worse death is a life without hope.”

Having previously been blessed with an out of body experience during trauma that was caused by the U.S. government and prior to my recovery in advance of relearning how to walk, I am not frightened by a natural death. The experience of dying for me confirmed the Socratic belief that the human soul is made of two parts with one half being a physical finite and the other a non-physical infinite. Life as seen from the eyes of the body is an illusion or one half of a duality. It was possible to see from two separate and paralleling perspectives at the same time. The physical world appeared normal while my body felt the tremendous force of being pulled into the earth. Initially from within the spiritual realm there was no ugliness, no beauty, no gender, and only muted colors with humanoid forms. Before I lost the sight of my physical body, the last human emotion that I felt was an all encompassing global pity that literally enveloped the earth with my living sentient energy. Soon I was sitting in space and the beauty of the earth returned with the comforting tenderness of a loving mother and at my back was the warmth of wisdom and strength from a fatherly sun. A few moments passed and my two halves were made whole again to continue the journey that brought me to this place of inhuman suffering.

In self-definition I am a Humanitarian-Universal-Infrastructuralist or a person who has spent a lifetime identifying and interrelating the commonalities between myself and all known sentient beings and other components within the universe from which to become more human.

My views of the current U.S. President and Vice President find them culpable for treason, egregious crimes against humanity and international terrorism while wearing a mask of insipid divinity. Clearly these judicially selected ten cent millionaires are criminal sociopaths who function from a series of learned behaviors used to produce a desired result while being incapable of recognizing any genuine sense of right and wrong.

These individuals and their followers bare the marks that brand their names with the gamatria of the most inhuman and deceptive beings that walk among us on the earth in legion with what some would call the antichrist. Although I have never considered myself worthy of the blessings, respectfully I believe that throughout my life there have been a number of occasions when my being was touched by the many faces of G-d. With all of that said, one should never confuse spiritual currency with political capitol since the latter is most often sourced from the abyss of false profits, which brought the genocide over six million Jews, Gypsies and homosexuals in Nazi Germany; the slaughter of tribal nations in America; the turning of human beings against their brothers and sisters throughout history; the selling of children, women and men as slaves; the gang rape and victimization of Arabic women who are then whipped as criminals; and the 911 terrorist attacks used to perpetuate war profiteering and oil piracy for those who drink from a rivers of human blood and suffering. Considering my temporary acquaintance with death, I believe the purest form of spiritual worship that collectively joins us with the universe is simply the individual act of at least attempting to recognize the human being in all people.

BLACK FILE 7001:

“Black File 7001” is a work of investigative journalism that began in 1994 as an academic prospectus with the goals of publishing books, producing movies, film documentaries, and developing a lecture syllabus with the thinking who better to teach than a person with skin in the game. While in a fulltime academic setting and shortly after beginning this protect, I discovered actionable intelligence that was brought forward for case installation at the federal level. Already possessing an inactive law enforcement background and specialized skill sets where few if any training manuals exist, the FBI requested my voluntary assistance for a projected twelve months. Five years later I completed the FBI undercover group one investigation having successfully penetrated four organized crime groups while never being afforded one day off for that entire period of time. Since other federal law enforcement agencies are not equipped to handle long duration personal security operations, I entered the Federal Witness Protection Program (WitSec) as a Non-Criminal Federal Witness in 1999. Nearly immediately after entering the WitSec the named agents and agencies of the U.S. government under the Bush-Cheney administration unthinkably began outing my active covert status. Since exiting the WitSec in good standing early in 2001, political retributions by the U.S. government have continued to terrorize me with actionable offenses and the tactics of psychological torture. These culpable acts additionally serve as a passive sanction for the assassination of an American citizen and a former covert agent of the federal government. This story is uncharted territory and I am unaware of any other writer/journalist who has actually penetrated this fraudulent clandestine federal program, which shrouds itself beneath an undeserved veil of secrecy that exists in the absence of public scrutiny and meaningful congressional oversight. The latter might explain why multiple action notices regarding this investigation have gone unanswered by the craven Democratic Congress that I helped elected to office with their false promise of ending the corporatist money laundering operation in Iraq.

Within the next 30 day or by New Year’s Day 2008, I will publish an extensive sanitized report that has been redacted from a much larger work. Please communicate with me and contact your local election campaign committees to demand that your congressional members take action in this matter.

American citizens are being used as the unknowing test subjects in a clandestine torture experiment shrouded within the Federal Witness Protection Program (WitSec). Non-Criminal Federal Witnesses (1,080) are a special minority class of American citizens in title only who are being used as a laboratory control sample for the applied tactics of terrorism and psychological torture (psyops) on a U.S. civilian population by the U.S. government.

Writing remains one of my two fragile anchors holding me to this world and a federal agent (L.H.M.) directly under the Bush-Cheney administration has telephonically communicated “you have a lot of people in high places afraid to death that you are going to destroy their programs…and if you publish a book, the government will invent a criminal charge against you.” After refusing not to publish with an invitation to that federal agent’s handlers to “go pound salt up their asses”, a series of actionable offenses were committed against me in political retribution under state, federal and international law. These same entities on several occasions have outed my classified status that with each culpable act, serves to intensify what has become a standing passive sanction for the assassination of an American citizen and former covert agent of the federal government.

As a physically disabled person from two trauma accidents caused by the federal government or incurred in the line of duty during covert government service, I applied for Social Security Disability Benefits (SSDB) through the required classified channels. This process required that I utilize my second WitSec Inspector (A.S.) and the Social Security Administration’s Sensitive Operations Division (SOD) that was established for persons in covert-ops, the CIA and the U.S. State Department working oversees. The Social Security Disability Benefits were authorized, but following my refusal not to publish the WitSec and SSA’s SOD conspired to punitively withdraw my SSDB. This occurred prior to beginning treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer in 2004. The government’s own federal court judge who heard the SSA case issued several letters of complaint to the Sensitive Operations Division, charging that office had provided the court with erroneous information and that the SOD’s delay in responding was contemptuous to the point of preventing a fair hearing. Two months past while the SOD and WitSec crafted their evidence and my SSDB’s claim entered the appeals stage. During the initial SSDB process, repeated telephonic conversations had been made with and between the WitSec and the SOD to insure that the production of the SSA documents would not out my covert status. After multiple assurances that complete security would be maintained, the WitSec and SOD deliberately or at the least through total gross incompetence filed documents that outed my covert status by commingling my identities in violation of several federal laws and a federal court seal. After the matter was sent to the SSA Hearing and Appeals Board where it remained for two years that federal agency notified my private attorney they had lost my classified government file in violation of the same laws allegedly protecting my covert status. A copy was returned by my attorney and two weeks later my benefits were denied again. The SSDB matter is pending on civil appeal to the federal court where I am certain it will be again denied by the government’s crafting of the evidence. Lastly the WitSec and SOD conspired to deconstruct my only viable work history by purging a covert front business located in Texas from the regular SSA computer system and additionally failed under contract to sanitize and convert my previous Social Security records into my new Jewish name. Allegedly I had been employed by that Texas front business for over a decade as a construction estimator that for all I knew might have found Dick Cheney answering the telephones on an earlier occasion. Following the WitSec and SOD’s punitive acts of political retribution, during two subsequent visits to the local SSA office the computer screen was so void of information that the office staffers contacted their supervisors to report they believed their computer system had been penetrated by hackers.

Prior to 911 and before the USDOJ had been prostituted by this corrupt administration, I was able to assist in the covert criminal prosecution of my first U.S. Deputy Marshal/WitSec Inspector (J.D.) for his theft of government funds.

After 911 and following my refusal not to publish under threat of the invention of a criminal charge by the U.S. government that same former WitSec Inspector/federal felon was released from prison and allowed to stalk me. While near death from chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer that same federal felon physically accosted me by the arm inside of a warehouse superstore. Thirty-six security notices went unanswered by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Federal Witness Security Program Headquarters.

The second WitSec Inspector (A.S.) eventually came to my home with a regular deputy marshal who did not have a WitSec security clearance, which further outed my covert status and sarcastically laughed that he had forgotten to tell me that the WitSec Headquarters’ mailing address had been changed after 911 and that under the new U.S. Patriot Act my only means of communicating with headquarters was directly through him. That WitSec Inspector continued to smile while stating that my classified information and security notices had been circulated by several staffers without WitSec clearances before it got to where I thought it was being sent. When asked about the other Deputy Marshal’s security clearance, the WitSec Inspector stated “owe I use non-WitSec personnel all the time to handle WitSec matters.” This same WitSec Inspector has committed multiple actionable offences and has outed my covert status numerous times while creating a growing mortal threat environment around my geographic location.

Many of the public self-aggrandizing claims and testimonials given before the U.S. Congress and published by the Federal Witness Protection Program will soon be debunked within my Black File 7001 report.

Following the WitSec and SOD’s removal of my work history with their deletion of the covert front business from the SSA computer system and even though I am a very capable and multitalented individual with strong skill sets, given this act and the government’s failure to perform under written contracts, I have been unable to find employment after submitting over 3000 job applications. However by comparison and in direct contrast to my own personal situation, the first WitSec Inspector (J.D.) after his release from federal prison for the theft of several thousand dollars in U.S. government funds is now gainfully employed and processing the private financial records of American citizens as a mortgage loan officer. Under this administration criminals and traitors are rewarded and the good servants of the American people become part of a disposable population.

Out of 18,000 federal witnesses, 16,920 are criminal and custodial federal witnesses and 1,080 of that total number are “non-criminal federal witnesses.” The six percent who are non-criminal federal witnesses are comprised of honorable American citizens from every cultural identity within our society. These same veterans of voluntary covert government service took that extra step above and beyond the call of duty to participate in our system while defending our constitutional democracy and the American people. Within that minority of six percent I am an even smaller number of non-criminal federal witnesses who entered covert government service with an inactive law enforcement background and specialized skill sets of a nature that possess few if any training manuals.

The ACLU of which I am a member has tried to bring four previous cases involving non-criminal federal witnesses through the Washington, D.C. office. With each lawsuit brought by the ACLU, the Bush-Cheney administration has issued national security letters to prevent the legal discovery of evidence and thus subverted the rule of law. However, in my possession is the actual physical evidence that includes but is not limited to federal court documents proving the outing of my covert status; the federal court documents of the first WitSec Inspector (J.D.); lawfully produced audiotape recordings of WitSec personnel and others; and the proof of warrantless wiretapping, data mining, the electronic theft of intellectual property; et al. One should remember General Douglas MacArthur’s island hopping campaign during WWII. As that relates to this matter, I am bypassing a slugfest with Goliath that would only serve to hold me in stasis with my foot in the courtroom door. Instead I invite all freethinking human beings to a Greek debate in the court of public opinion. Criticism and contemplation are necessary to keep a flourishing democracy alive. Let the U.S. government bring forth its best criminal cowards to stand on the square with me in open examination before the American people and the world.

THE TREASON OF CONDOLEEZZA RICE:

It is also my intention to challenge the blatant lies told before the U.S. Congress by Condoleezza Rice regarding the administration’s knowledge of events prior to 911 – the FBI and CIA did have operational joint counterterrorism taskforce offices since the mid 90s.

“A litany of lies about 911, Iraq and now Iran – There is one point that I am compelled to insert within this document beyond the scope of its primary focus and here seems as good a place as anywhere. A covert FBI Special Agent and former teammate in charge of two special operations groups who worked in the field with me and whom I supported in the hunt for Eric Robert Rudolph also known as the Olympic Park Bomber, revealed during the mid 90s that both the FBI and CIA had established joint counterterrorism taskforce offices to exchange foreign and domestic intelligence. This fact directly contradicts Condoleezza Rice’s testimony before congress regarding the August 6, 2001 PDB Briefing Report titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”, during which Rice stated that a fractionalization existed between federal agencies, which prevented intelligence information from being communicated to the Bush administration. The most blatant lie came when Rice stated that no joint FBI/CIA taskforce offices existed before or during that time, while alleging joint taskforce offices were being established forthwith. Further supporting a charge of perjury against Condoleezza Rice and I believe grounds for treason, appears to be former CIA Director, George Tenet’s public testimony regarding actionable intelligence in July 2001 regarding Osama bin Laden’s plan to attack American targets using commercial jetliners. July 2001 marked the last time that I flew on a commercial aircraft on my way to lecture at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and an occasion when I exchanged passing remarks with former U.S. Senator Gary Hart sitting near me. The actionable intelligence was clearly suppressed by the Bush-Cheney administration. In other words, given these facts and the known associations between the 911 Terrorists; the family of Osama bin Laden; the Saudi Arabian Royal family; the United Arab Emirates (poised to purchase 25% of Citibank and 40% of the U.S. and British Stock Markets); and the oil trading partners, personal friends and business associates within the Bush-Cheney syndicate it appears that the United States of America was allowed to be attacked by a foreign enemy to act as a protagonist event for the perpetuation of war profiteering and oil piracy. Therefore I strongly believe that if the unveiled enemies of the American people were not politically shielded, they would have already been prosecuted for treason, conspiracy, racketeering, money laundering, operating a continuing criminal enterprise, international terrorism, and crimes against humanity.”

SPECIAL NOTE CONCERNING IRAN:

Before the 2006 election the U.S. Intelligence agencies already knew that Iran did not have a “secret nuclear weapons program.” That report was presented to the Bush-Cheney administration and was politically suppressed with instructions given between the lines to craft new evidence. The facts are that Iran’s nuclear enrichment program has not been able to achieve a greater rate than 3.8% enrichment, which is even a lower percentage than what is required to bring a peaceful nuclear power plant online and far less than the enrichment level needed to produce a nuclear weapon. The psychology of substituting sexuality for the creation of illegal wars with oil rich sovereign nations, seems the iconic aphrodisiac of this administration when laminating that over sixty-eight elected Republican politicians have been charged and convicted of sexual crimes against children; that George W. Bush, a known cocaine user (sexual stimulant), deserted his post in the Air Nation Guard when they began drug testing; that both Bush and Cheney took multiple deferments from military service during Vietnam so that other Americans could die in their places; that Dick Cheney made use of a Freudian phallic extension in the form of a shotgun to shot his friend in the head during a hunting expedition; that Dick Cheney has a pneumatic penile implant to achieve an erection; and that the nude photograph of George W. Bush in college displays an unremarkable penis. Add these factors together with the absolute power over the U.S. military and the world will recognize a six headed monster with twelve hearts that numbers 666 and produces the political fodder that destroys the sovereign thought process, creates a toxic society and consumes the collective human soul. Plainly stated devil cannot exist without followers.

MY REQUEST TO MEDIA, UNIVERSITIES, PUBLISHERS, MOVIE PRODUCERS, AND THE WORLD OF HUMAN BEINGS:

While my reaching out might become the closing scene in a lifelong journey to become more human, knowingly I choose my own death over remaining a torture victim and slave within an uncultivatable existence where self-nurturing and remaining true to one’s own nature is an impossibility. The Democratic Congressional members that I helped elect have remained silent with the full knowledge of this matter and only a handful of good human beings seem to be listening for the moment. Already a subordinate federal agent directly under the Bush-Cheney administration has telephonically threatened that if I publish a book the government will invent a criminal charge against me. This is not the America that I defended and have nourished. Nevertheless if we are to remain a world of human beings, we the people must publically exam the U.S. government’s ongoing psychological torture of up to 1,080 Non-Criminal Federal Witnesses who are American citizens and your good neighbors. Currently I have established online locations on YouTube, Tribe.net, Comcast, and have posted on the message board at The Ed Schultz Show website where these American citizens can share their stories with other human beings and possibly begin to reclaim their individual sense of self-identity through these communication platforms. One non-criminal federal witness has already communicated they are hiding outside the U.S. to protect themselves from U.S. government torture. Recently I attempted to communicate with a well known actor’s movie studio and was informed that I must have a listed creative agent to represent my story before they will be legally able to communicate with me. Therefore and in as much that I would dare to hope to restore my own life back to the place where it should have already been, I am seeking the representation of a listed Creative Agent, Business Negotiations with members from the Publishing and Motion Picture Industries, and a University Initiative from an accredited School of Journalism where I might combine all of these components within a flourishing academic setting to create a lecture syllabus and continue writing. Please do not think me a selfish person, because I have remained one of the most extroverted and giving human beings you could ever know. This academic and professional prospectus has endured as my long-range plan since beginning this journalism project and is one of the few reasons why I have not ended my own life after experiencing something cousin to an extraordinary rendition to a clandestine blacksite torture facility that exists invisibly within the plain-sight of American society. Please do not let this story die with me and challenge the validity of any member of the Democratic Congress for their repeated failures to respond to several action notices regarding this matter.

Beyond the above I wish to offer one final piece of personal information. When I relocated to this area I had no intention of becoming involved with anyone and had anticipated reclaiming my academic standing to achieve my goals in life. While visiting a local bookstore and coffee house, I met the finest human being whom I have ever known and today that person is my wife. Together we raised our young child from her previous marriage and I have been blessed by the experience of being a father. Had it not been for my wife’s medical insurance I would not be here today writing this story. My wife retires at the end of this year and our child is now attending a university. What that means for me living on a fixed monthly annuity income and having been waited out by the WitSec while my saving depleted is that I will not be able to afford the additional $600.00 a month for my portion of the medical insurance policy. Further I have been unable to move in any direction to build the life that I wanted from the resulting harms caused by the WitSec cocoon that I will address in detail within the redacted report that follows. To protect my family and legally separate myself from my wife in the event of recurring illness, I am preparing to file the divorce papers on my desk. Never will I forgive or forget that the U.S. government under the Bush-Cheney administration has systematically deconstructed my family and prevented my equality as a person and an American citizen while psychologically torturing me in ways that have already killed other Americans who are non-criminal federal witnesses through suicide and medical neglect. This deconstruction of my family unit is comparatively symbolic to the overthrow of the U.S. government infrastructure by the international crime consortium and the same coconspiratorial war profiteers who attacked the United States of America on September 11, 2001. Having lived so long as the shell of an American citizen in title only, if I am unable to be made whole again in America, then as a torture victim and dissident under political persecution I am prepared to request asylum from the government of Canada. Should that fail and if I cannot be restored then I am ready to leave this world for the peace of oblivion and wish each of you mozel tov.

I have been coming a disturbing conclusion, that tribe.net is an almost all-white community, with little or no diversity or minority voice. Once I linked this to the burning man, it made more sense, since that event is also like a white people convention. It's not like I hate white people, or their society and culture; I was brought up in that world, and now I am bored of it.

I am for diversity and internationalism, and this tribe stuff is very parochial. What is a tribe, anyway? It's an exclusionary device used to enmesh a bunch of people who have the same viewpoints, if not DNA, and organize the group using arbitrary criteria to expropriate labor. So; the tribe organizes around the titular leader, all wealth and power accrue to him who then dispenses it downwards. It's very autocratic without the benefits of even that symbiosis of class structure and dualism.

Everything passes through the leader. In order for the males to have sex with the females, they have to have to submit to the will of the leader. This is how you can identify all tribal social structure. Tribalism is even more primitive than capitalism, and even more self-delusional.

Tribes are dying everywhere, it's a dying social system because everyone is frozen in their tracks forver, there is no movement, no dialectic, only stagnation.

A second Food Not Bombs group started in 1988 in San Francisco. It was the perfect city for Food Not Bombs with good weather and history of radical activism. Keith McHenry, along with two San Francisco activists, realizing there was no free lunch service for the homeless on Mondays, set up a food table at the entrance to the Golden Gate Park at the foot of Haight Street. There was always a nice little crowd of people sitting on the lawn and they welcomed the free lunch and message of peace. On August 15, 1988, this small group of dedicated Food Not Bombs activists was surprised when 45 riot police marched out of the woods and arrested 9 volunteers who were sharing food. Undaunted, they returned the next Monday and so did the riot police. By Labor Day, over 100 volunteers were arrested. News of these arrests made CNN, the London Times and many other media outlets. Facing a crisis, Mayor Art Agnos held two afternoons of meetings with members of Food Not Bombs, the ACLU, city officials and neighborhood activists. Under pressure, he issued a permit and Food Not Bombs returned to the park to share their ideas and food without police interference.

The AFL-CIO's Working America project has launched a "bad boss" contest. Unfortunately, the prize is only a free vacation, rather than the opportunity to see your nominee drawn and quartered after a lengthy and humiliating public trial.

I've heard so many bad boss stories that I'd hate to be one of the judges. The boss who makes you work overtime without pay (which would include Wal-Mart, unless it has cleaned up this practice)

...the boss who expects little personal services, like back rubs or picking up his or her dry-cleaning ... the boss who regards you as sexual chattel .... the boss who likes to keep you in a state of constant anxiety about your employment status ... the boss who throws tantrums, along with various heavy objects.

Much as I'd like to see all these miscreants brought to justice, I tend to think the emphasis on bad bosses is a little misguided. The problem isn't particular bosses, but what I call Bossism -- the hierarchical system that governs all known bureaucracies, both public and private. Giving one person huge power over others is like a giving a three-year-old a hose: not everyone will get soaked, but the chances of coming out dry are slender.

But, you may be wondering, how would anything get done without bosses and Bossism? Well, a surprising amount gets done that way all the time, as I saw in my Nickel and Dimed jobs. If the restaurant gets swamped or the nursing home residents start tossing their food around, don't count on a manager to tell you what to do -- if, indeed, there is a manager within hailing distance. In crisis situations, I again and again saw low-paid workers organize themselves, more or less spontaneously, everyone pitching in and helping each other, with no one playing the role of "boss." As for any real boss on the scene, the best he or she could do in a crisis was to pitch in -- or get out of the way.

What I was witnessing was workplace democracy in action, or, more fancily put, what French sociologists call autogestion or workers' self-determination. It may sound exotic, but it's not just an attribute of the rare anarchist collective. In fact, it's a notion revered in contemporary corporate culture as the team.

The rhetoric of teams, implying some sort of equality among the players, is everywhere today. You're not an employee of Whole Foods; you're a "team member." You don't work for Wal-Mart; you're an "associate," theoretically as capable of making a creative contribution as the regional manager. According to Wal-Mart folklore, for example, it was a lowly associate who came up with the brilliant idea of "people greeters." (But whenever I, in my brief stint as a Wal-Mart associate, made a useful suggestion -- like why stack so many of the women's plus-size clothes at floor-level, where they were accessible only to the young and agile? -- I was always told that such decisions were made by the big bosses in Bentonville.) When corporations uphold the idea of "teams," they're grasping for the kind of ingenuity and creativity people naturally bring to a challenging situation -- if they're allowed to, i.e., if they're treated like participants instead of like servants or subordinates.

So, yes, line the bad bosses up against the wall, but let's not forget that the real problem is Bossism, with all its nasty effects. It's Bossism that generates arrogance among the bosses and learned passivity among the bossed, along with fatalism or corrosive resentment. Everyone knows there's an alternative embodied in the idea of the team. When are we going to start taking it seriously?

Shortly before the end of the apartheid regime in South
Africa, amidst wonderfully frantic activity by newly
legalized and relaunched organizations of struggle, one
of the many keywords being debated was "non-racialism."

Since building a "non-racial" nation was a longstanding
African National Congress goal, the word gave shape to
discussions about how to address racial inequality
amidst other social transformations in a Free South
Africa, especially during considerations of affirmative
action in the draft constitution. Both liberals and
some Marxists argued against stressing the "racial" in
the sophisticated analyses of racial capitalism that
held purchase in that time and place. The former could
claim that capitalism without apartheid would settle
racial inequalities through growth. The latter could
emphasize that ending capitalism was the key, and
perhaps the prerequisite, to a non-racial future. In
this context, a certain phrase used by other militants
struck home as particularly brave, precise and worth
thinking about as a starting place for any discussion
of race and racism: "The way to non-racialism is
through race."

As defenders of this approach we wish to challenge
readers of New Socialist to go beyond considerations of
race and class which begin from - and therefore can't
transcend - an either-or stance. If the 20th century
drove home any point to revolutionaries it is that
oppressions are multiple and cannot be explained
entirely through class relations. Even as we criticize
some Marxists for economic reductionist analyses of
racism, or for failing to see the critical place of
anti-racism in building resistance to capitalism, we
see ourselves as part of the struggle to define a
political economy of racism from within the Marxist
tradition.

Marxist Tools of Analysis

Marxism has produced the best tools for understanding
race and racism. The idea that race is constructed by
society has been best and most articulately explored by
Marxists, and the tradition of the critical study of
whiteness has been led by materialists as pluralistic
in their approaches as James Baldwin, W.E.B. Du Bois,
Oliver Cox, Karen Brodkin, Michael Rogin, Theodore
Allen and Noel Ignatiev.

So, too, was the fundamental refusal to accept race as
scientifically real and measurable a contribution of
Marxism. It is no surprise that the leading de-bunkers
of racist science, most notably the late Stephen Gould,
would be influenced by historical materialism. Among
other brilliant contributions, Gould's analysis of how
race was assumed as it was measured in order to prove
its existence gave us one of the most trenchant
historical materialist arguments against racial
difference as biologically measurable and thus real,
long before the human genome arrived with its "new"
evidence.

These tools have never been more needed than they are
now. Much of the world continues to throw up clear
lessons regarding the continuing significance of race
to the structuring of oppression, to the shaping of
strategies of rule under capitalism and to some of the
contours of resistance.

In Venezuela, opposition to Hugo Chavez and to his
social base includes anti-indigenous and anti-African
characterizations so broad and so racist that the
veteran left-wing journalist Tariq Ali regards the
elite there as the world's most self-consciously white
reactionary force; in Brazil affirmative action has
just begun, while in the US it has grown ever more
clear that powerful right-wing forces promote a
"colorblind conservatism" that seeks to end not only
affirmative action but also the very gathering of
statistical evidence on racial inequality.

In the last presidential election a Bush vote was
equally well-predicted by making over $200 000 a year
and by being a white male. Recently, a top French
politician suffered criticism for his racist attacks on
Muslim youth rebelling against police violence in and
around Paris. His response was to quickly plan a trip
to Martinique designed to emphasize how little colour
matters in the French colonial world. He was so
thoroughly unwelcomed by Martinique's great poet and
theorist of liberation Aime Cesaire and others that the
publicity stunt had to be cancelled.

Class Without Race?

Surprisingly, amidst such realities, we are now
witnessing an attempt by sections of the Left and of
liberalism to distance race from class analysis in a
way that leaves no doubt as to the overwhelmingly
greater import of the latter and indeed calls into
question the very use of race and racism as categories
of analysis.

The late activist sociologist Pierre Bourdieu and his
co-thinker Loic Wacquant, for example, have attempted
to portray aspects of the analysis of the racial axis
of power in the world, and particularly the rise of
affirmative action in Brazil, as the terrible result of
the heavily funded export of "cunning" and
"imperialist" US ideas. Antonia Darder and Rodolfo
Torres hold that the "problem of the twenty-first
century" is the use of concepts like "race" and
"whiteness," echoing US socialist Eugene V. Debs's
claim a century ago that (assumedly white) socialists
properly had "nothing special" to offer African
Americans except a place in the class struggle.

To these people, concerns about the racialization of
power or structural analyses of whiteness allegedly,
and even by design, provide a "smokescreen" to
"successfully obscure and disguise class interests."
While Darder and Torres allow that "racism" is still a
problem worth addressing, the recent writings of the
radical political scientist Adolph Reed, Jr. are done
even with all that. "Exposing racism," he argues, is
for activists "the political equivalent of an appendix:
a useless vestige of an earlier evolutionary moment
that's usually innocuous but can flare up and become
harmful." Echoing Debs, Reed maintains that class is
the "real divide."

This kind of one-sidedness and dismissiveness arises
out of the fact that class and race are different kinds
of categories, out of the distressing continuing
popular associations of race with biology in the face
of decisive scientific evidence to the contrary, out of
the tacit acceptance of ethnic cleansing as a tool of
warfare, out of the decades of defeat for anti-racist
movements in some nations and out of the difficulties
in bringing the worldwide struggles against what
participants call "racism" closer together. But this
context does not provide an excuse.

In this article we argue that the way to both non-
racialism and to anti-capitalism is still through race
and class analysis as well as anti-racist action. The
editors of New Socialist have given us not just the
task of explaining our method but of offering some
thoughts on the nature of racism today. In doing that
we hope to touch on several aspects that we think are
particularly vital to an anti-racism that is
sophisticated without being jargonistic, and militant
while realizing that the slogan "Black and White Unite
and Fight" is, as the Trinidadian-born revolutionary
socialist CLR James once said, "unimpeachable in
principle ...But... often misleading and sometimes even
offensive in the face of the infinitely varied,
tumultuous, passionate and often murderous reality of
race relations."

There is an overriding Marxian tendency to reduce the
cause of racism to labour market competition among
workers for jobs. Yet the idea that racism is produced
always as a result of labour market competition cruelly
disregards the possibility that racist acts are
sometimes or maybe often acts of racial empowerment,
rather than of class disempowerment. The existence of
all-white schools and neighbourhoods originates now
less than ever in patterns of job discrimination, as
workplaces and residences are geographically separated
sometimes by great distances. And if we acknowledge
that some of the most white places in society are
untouched by multi-racial labour market competition
then we have to grapple with the idea that race and
racism grow and develop beyond the specific relations
of production or reproduction.

Drawing inspiration from Lenin's understanding that
ideology is real and Du Bois's that race gives white
workers a psychological wage, we understand that race '
like gender ' organizes relations of power in multiple
ways. Understanding racism necessitates a separate and
distinct perspective on power relations beyond the
terms of class. The history of death row in the US
makes it clear that killing a white person is
considered a more harshly punishable crime than killing
a Black person in US society, highlighting the need to
understand the state's role in not just overseeing but
creating social rules based on race.

Learning from Australia

A brief account of the recent travails of the Left and
labour in Australia shows why it is so urgent to raise
the call for continued focus on race as well as class
relations of power. In early December 2005, the right-
wing Liberal Party government rammed through, largely
without debate, a harrowing series of laws that put
that nation in the front ranks of reaction worldwide.
John Howard's government passed a draconian new labour
code squarely in the tradition of Thatcherism and an
anti-terrorism act that rivals the US Patriot Act.

The centerpiece of the triumph of neoliberalism, and
the focus of the most successful left and labour
opposition, lies in the dramatic reverses in labour
law. The massive and euphemistically named
"WorkChoices" bill abolishes unfair termination appeals
in all businesses with less than 100 workers and in all
of the sure-to-be-many cases where the employer claims
that layoffs reflect "operational requirements." It
guts overtime premium pay and enables forced overtime
work in a way that will be the envy of Bush
administration anti-labour strategists. It severely
restricts union access to workplaces while sharply
limiting and increasingly criminalizing the right to
strike. The bill allows for unilateral termination of
expired agreements by management. Minimum wage
settlements are put in the hands of a commission
mandated to make economic competitiveness - not the
living and fair wage ideas so prominent in white
Australian industrial history - the benchmark in
setting standards. In the run-up to the bill's passage
its opponents mobilized hundreds of thousands of
demonstrators in what were, with the anti-Iraq War
protests of 2003, the biggest in the nation's history.

The anti-terrorism bill, passed without similar mass
protest after gag orders to curb reporting on its
contents, authorizes detentions without evidence of
criminal involvement and without disclosure of
incarceration. Even the disclosure of facts regarding
these irregular seizures and interrogations of persons
is itself made a crime both for journalists and others.
The bill grants "shoot to kill" immunities in pursuits
of possible detainees. It opens the way - in a manner
chilling to aboriginal activists who necessarily build
their campaigns for land rights and "stolen wages" on
searching and vocal criticism of government policy - to
prosecutions on charges of "urging disaffection" with
the state.

The great South African novelist JM Coetzee, now living
in Australia, put the new law's inhumanity squarely in
human terms. He offered a scenario in which "someone
called a reporter and said 'Tell the world - some men
came last night, took my husband, my son, my father
away, I don't know who they were, they didn't give
names, they had guns.'" And he spelled out the results:
"the next thing that would happen would be that you and
the reporter in question would be brought into custody
for furthering the aims of a terrorist [and]
endangering the security of the state." Coetzee
continued, "All of this [was done] during apartheid in
South Africa in the name of the fight against terror. .
. I used to think that the people who created [South
African] law that effectively suspended the rule of law
were moral barbarians. Now I know that they were just
pioneers ahead of their times."

While elements of the Labour Party fought relatively
hard on the trade union legislation, its historically
racialized perspective on labour allowed it to define
class interests separate from what it believed to be
its security interest. Thus Labour voted with the
Howard government on the anti-terror bill, even as the
United Nations warned of the possibility that the
legislation would ratify anti-immigrant racist hysteria
and victimize asylum-seekers. In an angry post-mortem
when the law passed, the Law Council of Australia held,
"Unlike the Labour Party, we've put up a good fight."

Within a week of the legislation's passage, many
Australians mobilized in a militant demonstration in
the Sydney area, though not of the kind for which we
would hope. At the time of these historic legislative
defeats for the working class and the Left, what in
Australia is called "talkback radio" became saturated
with political exchanges and calls to action. The
popular populist radio host Alan Jones strongly urged
the need for "a rally, a street march, call it what you
will. A community show of force." Radical groups joined
in building the protest. When thousands gathered at the
week's end the policing was so hesitant as to suggest
broad sympathy with the demonstrators. Nonetheless the
crowd of between five and ten thousand embraced
extralegal tactics, and violence lasted for many hours.
The early December actions absolutely galvanized press
attention with giant headlines clearly distilling the
crowd's message.

But, as the blaring headlines showed, that message did
not include a murmur of protest against the week's
legislative barbarisms. Instead it urged "RACE HATE"
(Herald Sun) and threatened to begin "RACE WAR" (The
Australian). Jones, the talkback radio riot organizer,
was a racist populist of the variety so familiar on US
airwaves. The radical groups building the mob were
white supremacist ones. The victims of the extremely
bloody and well-photographed militancy were the few
Arab youths on beaches that organizers and the mob had
declared off limits. Arab swimmers suffered taunts and
attacks as potential bombers, as threats to Australian
women, and as puritans opposed to bikinis, nudity and
beer on the beaches. On Cronulla Beach, the white crowd
could see itself as the beleaguered combative essence
of the Australian nation. "And the mob," as one
newspaper put it, gesturing towards The Pogues' great
antiwar anthem, "sang 'Waltzing Matilda.'"

After parliamentary defeats and the beach riots, for
many on the Left the tasks seem to be to build
resistance in single-issue campaigns that so
effectively focus on the "real" and "unifying" issues
of class and capitalism as to draw energies away from
the irrationalities that fuelled the Cronulla mob and
to identify and champion alternative national
traditions and values in Australia that could lead to
deep opposition to attacks on both workers and on
immigrants. Yet to follow this seemingly non-racialized
course is to ignore the very real, and distinct,
problem of racism. That the full and excellent website
of the main Australian trade union federation did not
mention the riots underscores this point.

Such a response continues patterns firmly established
in the campaigns against repressive labour legislation.
In the former campaign, the labour federation argued
for the existing laws because "for more than a hundred
years, Australia has had an industrial relations system
that has given working people a share of the benefits
of economic prosperity when times are good and ensured
that there are decent protections... when times get
tough." The left-wing journalist John Pilger worries
that the new labour code has "put paid to Australia's
tenuous self-regard as the 'land of fair go.'" He
recites a litany of firsts that gave reason for such a
self-image: women's suffrage, the minimum wage, Labour
Party government, the eight-hour day, the Australian
ballot. "In the 1960s," Pilger concludes, "with the
exception of the Aboriginal people... Australians could
boast of the most equitable spread of national income
in the world." Such appeals ignore, or in Pilger's case
literally bracket, the decimation of aboriginal people,
land seizures, stolen wages, stolen children and
exclusion from the very social goods for which the
nation is extolled. Similarly disappeared is the
unambiguous grounding of Australian social democracy
and women's suffrage in white supremacy and Asian and
Pacific Islander exclusion.

Right-wing victories are not explicable without
understanding the dynamics of white supremacy exposed
by the beach riots. While the Howard government does
not generally more than flirt with openly vulgar racism
- the prime minister's response to the riots was that
Australia is a colorblind society - its attacks on
indigenous land rights, stalling of the reconciliation
process without even a symbolic apology for settler
colonialism and setting up of offshore compounds in
which asylum seekers are indefinitely detained as a
precondition of entry speak powerfully. As radio talk
shows turned the conversation away from class, labour
law and civil liberties to beaches and Arabs, the
Howard government announced a study of the alleged
pathology and waste of small aboriginal settlements,
with a view to the withdrawal of government services
and support from them. The Labour Party's feeble
colorblind response was to suggest that small white
settlements also be investigated.

Such sidestepping cannot work. In Australia, right-wing
politics has successfully won votes by uniting
nationalism and an individualism leavened by male-
bonding around the image of the "battler," the hard-
working man struggling indomitably in a hostile and
changed world. Made up of elements of frontier
mythology, imperial sport and "mateship," the battler
is distinctly white. The important indigenous
Australian scholar of whiteness Aileen Moreton-Robinson
has recently written that "representations of mateship,
egalitarianism, individualism and citizenship" are
presented as if they have no "connection to whiteness,"
but that in fact at every turn they do connect with it,
and with right-wing political success.

The literal wrapping of those in the beachfront mob in
flags and flag headbands, the avowals of defense of
Australian womanhood and the claiming of the high-
ground of talkback radio commonsense before the show of
force all tie Cronulla to everyday politics of race and
gender. Editorial cartoons in the wake of the bloodshed
were far more acute than written editorials. The best
of them, in The Australian, showed in extreme closeup a
gaggle of flabbily fierce white men, brandishing
weapons and sporting t-shirts that read "Muslims Out!!"
"Bash Lebs!" and "Kill Wogs!" The caption read
"Howard's Battlers."

Potent in its linking of racial violence to the
policies of the Howard regime, the cartoon accomplishes
what the Left should. With racist demonstrators
themselves rationalizing their attacks on immigrants
and non-white Australian citizens as a direct response
to Howard's legislative victories, leftists need to
think about the timing of such events. That the most
militant expression of rage to follow the passage of
the WorkChoices legislation as well as the anti-terror
bill was a demonstration of white power - notably aimed
at recruiting working-class youths, but not led by them
- should inspire leftists to creative and innovative
thinking about the explanatory power of race in
people's lives today.

Three Issues for Activists

This kind of thinking requires us to accept the complex
but plain notion that race has been created
historically and changes over time. Of course, this
statement is more true at the level of the state than
the individual, but we have to acknowledge that race
and racism, while structurally organized, are created
and reproduced in everyday life. Indeed, this dimension
of race, in which it is created while class is
supposedly "real," is one of the crutches the Left has
leaned on in order to think less hard about how to
combat racism.

Toward the end of creating both anti-racist theory and
practice we want to speak to three issues we think
activists must confront in the process of multi-racial
movement building.

1. Rights and Privileges

In a world in which rights are constructed as
privileges, it is logical to speak of racism in terms
of white skin privilege. But precisely because some of
what exist as privileges are in fact rights it is
imperative that activists understand the difference
between what we are fighting for and what we are
fighting against.

As anti-racist activist and scholar George Lipsitz has
beautifully articulated, "opposing whiteness is not the
same as opposing white people...one way of becoming a
[white] insider is by participating in the exclusion of
others. White people always have the option of becoming
anti-racist...we do not choose our colour, but we do
choose our commitments. Yet we do not make these
decisions in a vacuum; they occur within a social
structure that gives value to whiteness and offers
rewards for racism." If opposing racism means opposing
social exclusion and expanding opportunity and
possibility for those historically and still excluded,
it is critical that we strive to understand the
difference between rights and privileges.

What is it that white people must give up? For example,
white privilege shields white people from much
repressive everyday policing. So, after white
supremacist Timothy McVeigh's bombing of the federal
building in Oklahoma City, should anti-racists have
demanded that young, white men with short hair be
randomly questioned, stopped and detained? Of course
not! But today when terrorism comes up and people think
they are only talking about security and not at all
about race it's worth pointing out that young white men
weren't singled out after McVeigh's bombing in the way
that young men of colour have been since Sept. 11,
2001. Should we argue for more policing of white youth
because immigrant and Black youths are more harshly
policed? No, though we should creatively and with
conviction develop language to talk about how skin
privilege does shape life experiences without urging
personal guilt as a solution.

Knowing the difference between rights that should be
expanded and privileges which should not be taken for
granted is essential in building genuine multiracial
organizations and societies.

2. Understanding Racism

Theoretically-informed writing, even when the language
is tough-sledding, can help inform our practice. Thus
when Lisa Lowe writes in Immigrant Acts that capital
often profits "not through rendering labour 'abstract'
but by... creating, preserving, and reproducing the
specifically racialized and gendered character of
labour power" she speaks to what happened in
Australia's labour law and on its beaches. She shows us
that race is no "fixed essence" but a convergence of
contradictions. She models how Marxist insights can be
both deployed and extended. Developing as it does out
of so many different kinds of intersections, so many
different kinds of state actions regarding citizenship,
and so many different degrees of unfreedom, race must
constantly be specifically situated, which means that
racism must also be. One task of activists should be to
continue developing new language for understanding the
myriad actions and ideas that fall under the heading
"racism." As the freedom movement in South Africa gave
us the concept of non-racialism, as the Civil Rights
and Black Power movements each expanded our
understanding of the difference between legal and
extra-legal discrimination along with the importance of
understanding and taking on both, and as women of
colour feminists challenged and fundamentally
transformed national liberation movements with regard
to gender roles, so, too, do today's activists need to
understand the systems of oppression we confront and
need to shift. If the UN Conference on Racism proved
one thing it is that there are multiple racisms in the
world and thus there must be multiple strategies for
resistance.

3. What Should We Do?

We must support every small effort, including
especially demands for reparations for people oppressed
by racism that potentially educate white people about
the ways in which capitalism, settler colonialism,
slavery and racism developed together in the past and
about how serious anti-racist actions can benefit all
of us today. We must expand participation, resist
complacency and demand reform while opposing top-down
reformism. We must insist that quiet desperation is the
best we can expect without direct action for
transformation.

Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg thrust himself into the national immigration debate Wednesday, advocating a plan that would establish a DNA or fingerprint database to track and verify all legal U.S. workers.

The mayor also said elements of the legislation moving through Congress are ridiculous and said lawmakers who want to deport all illegal immigrants are living in a "fantasy."

In an editorial for The Wall Street Journal and two nationally televised interviews, the mayor reiterated his long-standing belief that the 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States should be given the opportunity for citizenship, saying that deporting them is impossible and would devastate the economy.

Aides said Bloomberg believes his views are relevant because he has a rare perspective as a former businessman who ran a company for two decades before he became mayor, in charge of enforcing the laws in a city with an estimated half-million illegal immigrants. They said that the editorial was his idea and that CNN and Fox News approached him to discuss his views on the air.

In the article and on air, Bloomberg slammed lawmakers who want to deport all illegal immigrants, saying on Fox News that "they are living in a fantasy world."

Asked in that interview whether his opinions put him at odds with his political party, the mayor, a former Democrat, shot back: "With which party?

"I'm not a partisan guy," Bloomberg said. "I am a mayor who has to deal with 500,000 people who are integral to our economy but are undocumented."

Bloomberg compared his proposed federal identification database to the Social Security card, insisting that such a system would not violate citizens' privacy and was not a civil liberties issue.

"You don't have to work _ but if you want to work for a company you have to have a Social Security card," he said. "The difference is, in the day and age when everybody's got a PC on their desk with Photoshop that can replicate anything, it's become a joke."

The mayor said DNA and fingerprint technology could be used to create a worker ID database that will "uniquely identify the person" applying for a job, ensuring that cards are not illegally transferred or forged.

Donna Lieberman, director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said a DNA or fingerprint database "doesn't sound like the free society we think we're living in."

"It will inevitably be used not just by employers but by law enforcement, government agencies, schools and all over the private sector," she said.

Homophobic Police Assault In Santa Cruz

The following is a letter of protest sent to the Santa Cruz City Council for the police assault of Shane (Tammy) Maxfield.

Santa Cruz City Council,

I am writing to protest the assault and false arrest carried out against Shane (Tammy) Maxfield by Santa Cruz Police Officer Brierly. A description of that arrest from an eyewitness follows this letter.

You as the City Council are the boss of the police and hold direct responsibility for the outrageous violations of civil liberties that are routinely carried out by your police department.

Yours is a police a department that has been successfully sued for its violations of free speech rights, a department that has violently broken up a protest against the war in Yugoslavia, a department that purposely targets activists for harassment, brutality and false arrests, a department that murdered activist John Dine in cold blood, a department that has been caught spying on and infiltrating anti-war organizations, a department that purposely targets the poorest of the poor for harassment, brutality and false arrests under the direct orders of the anti-homeless laws that you as a City Council have passed, a police department that targeted the Blue Lagoon, a gay bar, for special homophobic treatment eventually costing the City in a settlement of well over a million dollars.

The homophobic hate crime that Officer Brierly has now carried out against Shane (Tammy) Maxfield is just one in a long list of crimes carried out by your police department. Your encouragement of past crimes has led directly to this most recent one. The Santa Cruz Police department is sending out a strong message that Santa Cruz is not safe for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community and that the City no longer wants their tourism dollars.

I demand that Officer Brierly be immediately fired from the police force for his hate crime against Shane (Tammy) Maxfield and that Officer Brierly be jailed on the charge of felony assault for his criminal violence and reckless endangerment of the life of a person suffering with HIV/AIDS.

I am a witness in the case of Shane(Tammy) Maxfield, case #065-04163. Shane was handcuffed and forced to sit down against the chainlink fence on Pacific Ave/Church for "directing traffic." He was actually helping a friend and another witness, David Bliss jump David's battery to move his van out of the handicapped space.

The officer refused to give me his name and badge number. I begged him twice not to arrest Shane as he is severely ill with AIDS and has just started a dibilitating HIV cocktail of Trevada and Sustiva. He laughed at me and said "That's not gonna happen." I told him Shane might die of stress in jail and he guffawed and shrugged me off.

It was apparent the officer realized he hadn't charged Shane with anything yet as he pulled Shane up by his coat, slammed him against the fence and forced the top of Shane's head to barely touch him. He said: "Now I've got you for battery." This was in full public view of at least 40 witnesses at 1 PM on April 25,2006. Before the sergeant could take stories from witnesses Shane was put in the police car and taken to jail. His arraignment is May 15, 2006. The jail personnel were sympathetic and thought the whole incident ridiculous.

It is a travesty of justice to allow a police officer with NO communication skills arrest a severely ill man for helping a friend (the van was already jumped and ready to go when the arresting officer on the beat got there) This officer should be removed from the police force as he is nothing more than a thug in a uniform. He is guilty of police brutality, false arrest and battery upon Shane not the other way around.

This case was immediately reported to the media and is sure to garner public attention and support. The police on Pacific Ave. appear to be overzealous and commonly ticket people for such trivial offenses as riding a bike the wrong way down the street. In addition, the arresting officer in this case, listed on the arrest report as Brierly, badge # 174, made numerous derogatory remarks about "hippies" when he tried to prevent more people from stopping to observe the incident.

As summer approaches we need peace officers on Pacific Ave not Neanderthals. Brierly should be arrested and removed from the police force immediately

Resolution

Greens across the U.S. have spoken out against repressive legislation that targets undocumented immigrants. The party has also urged repeal of NAFTA and other trade agreements that have allowed transnational corporations to slash wages, disrupt other nations' economies by dumping U.S. products on their markets, privatize water and other public goods and services, and despoil the environment. Greens note that many immigrants, especially those who arrive impoverished and without documentation, are fleeing nightmares in their home countries.

RESOLUTION

Whereas, representatives in both the U.S. House and Senate are promoting resolutions criminalizing the status of immigrant workers;

Whereas, such actions would violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which recognizes "the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family;"

Whereas, both the House and Senate reflect an overwhelming majority of representation of citizens of immigrant ancestry;

Whereas, a great portion of people adversely affected by such resolutions are of heritage indigenous to the American continents;

Whereas, immigrants contribute to the U.S. economy, including 7 billion dollars paid into the U.S. Social Security System per year;

Whereas, the illusion of gained employment for U.S. citizens is nullified by the presence of "outsourcing" of jobs to citizens in other countries void of wage, health and safety protections, this without objection by representatives in the House and Senate;

"Whereas, our ten key values direct us to stand in Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy of solidarity with the oppressed and supporting the age-old American Labor movement principle, "An injury to one is an injury to all;"

Whereas, we honor the second Key Value of the Green Party of the United States: "All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law;"

Be it resolved by the Green Party of the United States Steering Committee, the Green Party of the United States National Committee, and the Green Party of the United States Peace Action Committee, that we join in solidarity with the "El Gran Paro Americano 2006, the May 1 Great American Boycott, honoring 'Un dia sin immigrante' 'A day without an immigrant' with the pledge for No Work, No School, No Sales, and No Buying."

Urgent!!! Please help

I am posting this everywhere I can, Please help us.
There are thousands of good people who could potentially lose their lives very soon.

Since the release of the information on the Sujiatun concentration camp in China, which is reported to do live organ harvesting on Falun Gong practicioners. More people have been stepping forward to reveal information. Recently, a veteran military doctor in the region of Shenyang said that the Sujiatun Concentration camp is just one of 36 such camps. Another camp in Jilin Province referred to as 672-S is said to hold over 120,000 people.

According to the Integrated Committee's announcement, transplant hospitals in China are now telling patients to "come in quickly" to get transplants. Patients are told that matching organs can be found at this time in as short as one or two days. The hospitals are also reported to say that, "it will be difficult after this batch of organs is used up."

We fear that there is going to be a mass execution to “hide the evidence” and get rid of witnesses. PLEASE HELP us, Falun Gong practitioners around the world are requesting an international investigation while there is still time.

The outcome of this Delphi bankruptcy case could spell serious peril for organized labor in America. The loss of unions at Delphi coupled with their loss of positions if GM goes bankrupt could completely castrate the UAW's already waning influence.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Delphi announced plans Friday to throw out its union contracts and shed more than 28,000 workers as it shut down most of its U.S. operations -- moves that could spark strikes at the auto parts maker and a possible bankruptcy filing at its biggest customer, General Motors.

Delphi (Research) filed motions with the federal judge overseeing its bankruptcy proceedings to shed contracts with the United Auto Workers union (UAW) and another union that it says it can no longer afford. It also announced plans to sell or close 21 of its 29 plants.

But it said it was encouraged by progress in talks with the unions, adding it's hopeful an agreement can be reached on concessions before a court hearing scheduled for early May.
